Book Club - Week Three

Christa Hesselink

We're half way through our month-long summer book club.  I sure hope you're enjoying the activities in the workbook (download it here for free!) the online discussion, and the ways in which you're being encouraged and challenged to think about life's great dare.

This week we're diving into some of the most inspiring territory in the journey of transformation - Rebirth, Freedom, and Love.

I'd created a short video for you...it's a great intro to Chapter 9! I reveal the painting that I received from friends - and it's a picture of the dream I had that I describe on pg. 93.

Watch it here:

PART THREE: Chapters 9-11 (pgs. 93-128)

Reflection

When something feels too good to be true, it usually isn’t true, right? But this is the very reason why transformation is good and miraculous! It’s why we call it Good News! The other side of death is Rebirth, Freedom and Love. These are the themes we’ll be exploring this week!

Questions *don’t forget there are more at the end of Life’s Great Dare

1. What threatens to push you off the path of the new habit, attitude or approach that is being formed in you? What do you need to stay on this path?

2. How are you relating to God as a “coach”? Is he a tyrant or a caring mentor-figure guiding your way? What difference would it make in your journey of transformation if you were to relate to God as a coach who encourages and guides you?

3. How do you feel about the idea that the perfect freedom we crave actually comes when we are radically dependent on God? What makes you feel that way? How do you think this impacts your own journey of transformation?

4. In what area of your life do you feel you’re being invited to put your full weight down on God? What about this makes you most afraid or anxious?

5. When you think about the areas in your life where you’ve experienced transformation, how has that made the world a better place? What do you think might be at stake if you don’t submit to the transformation that’s currently needed in your life? What “love” will be locked up tight and not given away?

Scripture

“For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17

“Anyone who goes through me will be cared for—will freely go in and out, and find pasture. A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” – John 10:9,10

Meditation: “Resting in You, I am free.”

Song

“Dawn To Dusk” by All Sons & Daughters

Lord as we turn to You

Come free us from our sin

We only have to

So let us now begin

From dawn to dusk, We are waking up

From dawn to dusk, We are waking up

Tomorrow's freedom is today's surrender

We come before You lay our burdens down

We look to You as our hearts remember

You are the only God

You are our only God

Lord as we give You more

Your Spirit swells within

'Cause You are holy holy Lord

So let us now begin

From dawn to dusk, We are waking up

From dawn to dusk, We are waking up

Tomorrow's freedom is today's surrender

We come before You lay our burdens down

We look to You as our hearts remember

You are the only God, You are our only God

Ooh yeah ooh oh ooh ooh ooh

Tomorrow's freedom is today's surrender

We come before You lay our burdens down

We look to You as our hearts remember

You are the only God, You are our only God

Tomorrow's freedom is today's surrender

We come before You lay our burdens down

We look to You as our hearts remember

You are the only God, You are our only God

Quotes

“The butterfly does not become the magnificent, colourful creature by a fury of activity. She submits to the confinement of the chrysalis – womb-like, tomb-like. She is still. She rests. She receives. She submits to a work more glorious than she could have ever conjured up for herself.” - Phileena Heuertz

“The heart of human identity is the capacity and desire for birthing. To be, is to become creative and bring forth the beautiful.” – John O’Donahue

Dare Challenge

This week’s challenge:

What will love look like for you this week? Concretely. Tangibly. Intentionally. Come up with three things to show your love this week.

1) Love for yourself

2) Love for someone else

3) Love for God

Put don’t stop but just coming up with the idea. Make the plan and stick it on the calendar. If you need some accountability in helping you follow through – reach out and tell someone your plans.

#SeekTheSweetToday

Be on the look out for things that remind you about what you’re reading this week. This week we talked about REBIRTH, FREEDOM, LOVE! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Be sure to use the hashtag #seekthesweettoday and follow everyone else’s inspirations! Don’t forget to head on over to my Instagram (www.instagram.com/clhesselink ) and check out some of my pictures too.

Thoughts & Expressions

(use this space to journal or draw whatever you need to from your chapter reading)

Prayer

Your love breaks us open.

You have a way of breaking sadness and fear and opening us wider to joy and peace.

In uncertain times, in dark days of waiting for your resurrection in us and around us,

we want more of your love to break us and open us.

It is with deep gratitude and abiding hearts we ask this.
